FFVII Materia for a cosplay?

I like the first ones best. While the second set looks great in the picture, I'm pretty sure they're close to the bouncy balls that you can get in dollar stores and such and wouldn't look as much like materia in person. A lot of the effect is the box they are in mixed with the flash from the camera, creating the layers of shadows and light.
