Did i do the right thing by giving some random guy $3 and some change?

i was coming home from a friend's house earlier and i have to drive through downtown to get back home.. it was 4:30 am in the morning or so.. ok, as i was driving i stopped at a red light there was a black guy with a cup of something .. im gonna say some alcohol that started to approach my window.. as he was approaching me i was gonna just run the red light and haul a*s out of there before i got a knife to my throat or a gun to my head.. and have my car stolen...but i decided to see what happens...so the guy approached my window (my window was down) and he started talking to me.. first thing he asked me was can i give him a ride to some persons house that i could hold his license.. then he changed it to do i have some spare money to give him so he can get to that person's house.. i only had $3 and some loose change in my pocket so i gave that to him then i drove on my way.. i mean i don't really mind giving money to people who ask me but what i'm really worried about is do you think he will go buy drugs, or booze with it?.. his speech was slurred and he smelled of alcohol when he was interacting with me.. and i'm not racist by the way.. the guy just happened to be black.. and i'm not trolling
